East Launch - Photo by Jim Yocom
Mt.
Princeton: Located about 20 miles SW of Buena Vista Colorado. Launch is at
12,000ft MSL, 3800ft AGL. The east launch is a shallow, rocky slope. The west
launch is a steep, rocky slope that faces into a canyon. From the west launch
you must fly around the end of the ridge to land on the east side. A clean,
aggressive launch is required to safely launch at this altitude. Can be
extremely turbulent in west winds greater than 15mph. As with any high mountain
site, conditions can change rapidly, fly only with a local pilot present.
Minimum 45 minutes from LZ to launch on 4WD road that features 2000ft vertical
drops if you slide off the road.
Primary LZ is about 80 acres of flat
grassland, with many medium sized rocks to twist an ankle on.
Recommended
Pilot Rating - Hang 3 for hanglider pilots during early morning, Hang 4 all
other times. Not normally flown by paraglider pilots due to often gusty
conditions.
