Spring 2018 Crawfords Trip

Postby Rick M » Wed May 09, 2018 6:00 pm

I'm looking to head to the Crawfords (Randolph, UT) sometime between May 16 - 23. Maybe hit another site or two on the way there or back depending on the weather.

Post up if you are interested. We can nail down specific days based on the forecast as it gets closer.

This is a great site to rack up hours of glass smooth evening ridge soaring as well as good midday thermal flights. Both HG and PG.

Very interested. Perhaps hit Dino on the way there or back.

Also planning to take an extended Memorial Day weekend off to fly somewhere: Villa, Gordo, maybe even Cove (Richfield UT).

I'm interested so keep me in the loop.
Staring at it won't fix it. Beer won't either but sometimes the can is useful.

I'll be flying in the Grand Junction area the second half of that timeframe. I'm hoping to get some flights at Lands End and Peach next weekend. From GJ I'm going to make my way via Durango (Menefee maybe) and Sandia to Dry Canyon for Memorial Day. Then back to Sandia on the the way back to CO.

Hi Jeff, I'll be bringing a wing and a bag so I can fly whatever suits the conditions. Looking forward to flying with you again. Been a while.

Unfortunately the conditions have been questionable. But the good news is that people are exploring some lesser flown or new sites so more options are opening up. Kudos to the pioneers and forgotten site recyclers.

All wings are welcome. There will be a daily group hug as well. :)

The forecast for the Crawfords looks terrible through Sunday so far. And every time I look, it changes. Besides rain, the winds look to be over the back or severely cross everyday. But of course a lot can change as the week moves on.

I have not had much luck with a spring trip to the Crawfords over the last decade. The fall tends to work better.

I'm free from tomorrow through next Wednesday so if it looks good somewhere within a reasonable drive (gas prices keep going up), I'm open to suggestions.

I think Josiah has the best plan so far. It is out there a ways but Looks like Gordo over Memorial Day weekend might have the best weather for flying. If so I might be up for the slightly longer drive there as compared to the Crawfords.

I've decided not to go to the western slope this weekend, but still plan on leaving for NM early next week to make my way to Alamogordo for next weekend.
