Aerotowing Sunday

Postby Jim Yocom » Thu Oct 12, 2017 1:36 pm

Weather update. Looks like a cool front is coming through Saturday around noon. Winds will be northerly and gusty in the 20-30 mph range. Sunday the winds turn south about noon, staying under 10mph. High in the upper 50s. So at this point Sunday afternoon looks best. We are planning to meet at the hanger about noon when the wind should switch from SW to SSE. Hope to see you there!

Still planning to aerotow Sunday afternoon. Winds look to be less than 10mph. Most models say southerly but a couple show northerly. None are west, so we should be good. Temps will be nice in the upper 50s on the ground but be prepared for cold while flying. Come and get some airtime!

Everything looks good for towing today! Most of the models are showing light NE winds with lift to around 10,000ft. One model shows more SE wind. Check the windsocks to decide whether to set up at the south or north end of the runway. It should be fun!

Had a good day towing. No useable lift, but great conditions to practice aerotowing and landings. I took 3 flights and Moose was able to get in a couple tows flying the tug. A day without good thermals when aerotowing is unusual, I have thermalled every month of the year there! Fall is a good time to come out and work on your aerotowing skills though. The winds are generally lighter and the thermals softer. Looking forward to next time!
