2014 WFA/CPR recertification

Postby flytm » Wed Nov 19, 2014 11:49 pm

Turns out that a bunch of us are facing expiration of our wilderness first aid and cpr certifications pretty soon. I reached out to the Red Cross, American Heart Association, the Colorado Mountain Club and a third party provider in the Denver area called GoodCommpressions.com.

Write back to me with your preferred available dates and we'll set something up that fits most of our schedules. Be sure to include:
1. your preferred dates (weekend/weekday?)
2. whether you are re-certifying current certs, or need to start from scratch

Sooner is better as we're all behind the eight ball on the schedule. We'll choose dates based on consensus and make this as convenient as possible for as many people as possible.

Costs break at 12-14 students. Club saves 20% if we have more than 12 students. If you're RE-certifying current certifications, then you only need ONE day. If you're starting new, (not currently certified or expired) then the course is TWO days.

NEW certifications are $175, club pays $100, so your cost is only $75 for a two-day (16-hour) course.

RE-certifications are $100, club pays $100, so your costs are $0 for a one-day, (9-hour) course.

What a bonus to be able to say we have x-percentage of active members are also WFA certified at our site.

I am current for my First Aid/CPR cert but will need to start fresh for the WFA training.

I'm open most anytime and can work around others' schedules, so whatever works for the rest will work for me.

I'm available most weekends. Please try to avoid the weekend between Christmas and new years.

Josh and I are both interested. Most weekends work, except between Jan 24-Feb 8 when a lot of us will be in Colombia. And between Christmas and New Years is no good.
Thanks for setting this up!!

OK Kids, good to see so much interest. Since we're so close to the expiration deadline, let's make a decision this weekend and choose a pair of days within two weeks. Cool with everyone?

Get in on the action. We need 12 to get the discount. Talk it up with your friends and let's make it happen. For the money, it makes a lot of sense for the group. More is better. Sooner is better.

This kind of education is super-valuable whether you're flying or not. So cool that the club wants to fund part of this. Looking forward to being in the class with you guys.

I need a re-cert. As I understand it that is one day. Should be able to make it. Where and when?

Come on by my office whenever you have a moment and pick up your cards. You guys rock.

Tim

PS: I think we all agree that our instructor Josh Anderson from the SLCFD was first-rate, top-shelf, big-time, super-pro to work with. We should do more cross-pollinating with other clubs whenever we can. I continue to be impressed and humbled by the cool people that participate in our sport with us.

If you attended (and passed) the CPR/First-Aid certification weekend, your cards are in and ready for pickup. Please stop by my office any time to pick yours up. If I'm not here, they're tacked to the wall behind my desk, just identify yourself to whomever is here and take yours. As my special holiday gift to you, you're welcome to keep the push pin holding yours to the wall.

Thanks again to the club for approving this expense and helping get it together for over a dozen local members.
