Good meeting tonight with a few new faces. Here's a quick recap:
-There is a new sign at the north side launch courtesy of Jeffco open space indicating which area is for pilots only. USHPA recommends observers remain 50 feet away from equipment on launch.
-Ben Devoti was voted in as the new miniwing flight director. Thanks to Ben for volunteering.
-Construction in the landing zone has been delayed by weather and is now slated to start in May. Might be the beginning of May, might be the end of May, might not actually start in May, but that's the best info we have at this point. For now, we are free to continue landing in the main LZ. Reminder: once construction vehicles and/or equipment is moved into the landing zone, the voluntary closure will be in effect.
-The Colorado School of Mines is reviewing and rewriting the agreement with RMHPA that has been in effect since the early 1990's. Unfortunately, we are no longer expressly allowed to land at the water tower. Fortunately, we are not expressly prohibited from landing at the water tower. The new agreement will make no mention of it, so please tread lightly.
-Jobin had a GREAT presentation to accompany a new Google Earth KML file he created. It outlined land that is safe (green), sketchy (yellow), and not permitted (red) for landing. Benzie will work with Don to get the file uploaded so that everyone can download and load it into Google Earth for their own study. This is a valuable tool and I was glad to learn from Jobin's experience. It would be great if the experienced members of our club would be willing to share their knowledge at every meeting like Jobin did. Jobin had a great comment: Lookout is a great place to launch, and a terrible place to land. This is more true than ever this season, so consider making the short hop to the horse pasture, the park north of Hwy 58, or the soccer fields.
