Aerotowing Update

Postby Jim Yocom » Mon Nov 28, 2016 12:09 am

It has been over a year since we last aerotowed and Tim and I have spent many days working on transitioning our tug to a Rotax 914 turbo engine. Finally this Saturday we got the tug into the air! It flew great! Just in time for winter to hit, but we are now ready when the weather does cooperate. Many thanks to Moose and his family for putting up with us almost every weekend and to Russell Brown who helped us so much with the conversion. No one but Russell really even knows how to do that. Except now for us! So look for an invitation to come out and tow with us as the weather allows - soon I hope! Now if the USHPA would figure out how to keep out tandem pilots flying we would be golden.

That is Great news!

BTW I had a Rotax 503 DCDI on my homebuilt Challenger II so let me know if you need a hand with it. The 914 turbo should work well up at our altitude.

Looking forward to winter aerotowing when conditions allow for it.

This is great! Thanks for all the blood, sweat and tears;) to get the tug up and running again. I know there are a few pilots who do not have their aerotow rating and would like to get it. Could someone post up about whether or not that will be an option to acquire out at Moose's and what it will entail? Thanks again guys and Im really looking forward to some flying out there.

Not sure if getting an AT rating will be an option here or not, but if not, people can get aerotow ratings at a number of places that are good to go during the winter. That is, warmer and more reliable flying weather for several days in a row.

Sonorawings just South of Phoenix, AZ
Cowboy Up HG just South East of Houston, TX
Wallaby or QuestAir in Florida between Orlando and Tampa

But it will be great having an aerotowing option at Mooses.
