get up too high and face it, it was freakin' cold.

So I got back to my place in time to take a shower and get ready for the road. Lynda showed promptly at 3:30, we stuffed my crap into and onto her Exterra and we were off. A quick call to SF on the road and we would meet at the Taco Bell at the Lincoln exit on I-25. Fortified with burritos and drinks, we were off.

Off into the pea-soup fog. Off into the bumper-to-bumper traffic. Off into the Friday, I want to get home, rush hour traffic. What  fun. Good thing Lynda is a great conversationalist and she has good tunes in her car. As we get to the Palmer Divide, SF comes over the radio "Ooops, I forgot to fill up."  Lynda and I are "cool, we'll have a huge lead."  By the time we get to the south end of Colorado Springs, SF has caught up. The traffic subsided south of Pueblo. The fog finally let up just south of Walsenburg. About the time we hit the raging wind. After crabbing along for about 70 miles, I tried one of my patented. calming co-pilot lines - "Did you know that this is one the highest drunk driving areas in the US?"  After the stinging went away from the well-deserved slap upside the head, the conversation turned to happier subjects. About Vaughn.  NM, it was midnight and we were all pretty tired, so this was where we would stop for the night. We went to the best place in town, only to find there was no room at the inn. So we checked in to a hole in the wall and hunkered down for the evening. We did want some of our money back, 'cause there weren't any data ports.

Day 2 - February 17

Up at 6:00am and on the road by 7:00am. We stopped for gas and "coffee."  It was decided that we would get breakfast on the road. Little did we know that there would not be any sign of food until Alamagordo. SF called Dave on the road and told him when we would arrive in Gordo. He had stayed in Albuquerque and was gonna hit the road soon.
We arrived in Gordo around 9:00am famished and
